Turning on Their Own: Trevor Noah Slams Hillary Clinton

You know that the tide is turning for Democrats when even some of the most liberal figures in all the media begin to turn on them and call them out for their hypocrisy.

While the vast majority of Trevor Noah’s time on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” is spent attacking conservatives for everything imaginable and praising liberals no matter what they do, even Trevor Noah could not bring himself to overlook Hillary Clinton’s latest betrayal of the values she supposedly upholds.

After billing herself as a champion for women and attacking Donald Trump repeatedly over his comments such as those caught on tape by Access Hollywood, one would think that if there was any area where Clinton would practice what she preaches it would be protecting women from sexual harassment. However, news recently broke that Clinton’s so-called “faith advisor” during her 2008 campaign, Burns Strider, was guilty of numerous cases of sexual harassment. Even after it was recommended that she fire him over these incidents, Clinton chose to keep Strider on her staff.

“Look, there’s a few areas where I don’t necessarily expect Hillary Clinton to nail it, you know?” Trevor Noah said, “Managing emails, visiting Wisconsin — you know, weaknesses. But I won’t lie, I expected standing up for a woman on her staff to be one of her strengths. So this story is disturbing. Hillary learned that one of her female staffers was being sexually harassed, and instead of the man getting fired, the woman got reassigned. But all that woman did was come forward. She did what she was supposed to do, and then she got punished for it.”

After the news that Clinton chose to keep Strider on her staff began making its rounds – and after Clinton started catching heat for that decision – she sent out a series of tweets attempting to control the damage.

“A story appeared today about something that happened in 2008. I was dismayed when it occurred, but was heartened the young woman came forward, was heard, and had her concerns taken seriously and addressed,” said Clinton in one tweet. She continued, saying, “I called her today to tell her how proud I am of her and to make sure she knows what all women should: we deserve to be heard.”

However, even Trevor Noah found this explanation by Clinton severely wanting. Addressing these tweets, Noah said, “Yeah, women deserve to be heard, and then quietly reassigned. Thank you for speaking up, now quietly into the closet. Like, I know that this incident happened ten years ago, and maybe ten years ago the world was a different place. But I don’t know, I thought in 2018, with everything we’re learning about now, maybe Hillary might come out and say: ‘Hey guys, I realize now that I was part of the problem in the way I handled this. When I look back, I realize I should have done better.’ Because that’s the truth.”

Trevor Noah went on to call out Clinton for attempting to dodge all blame while making it out as if she had been on the side of the woman who reported the harassment all along.

Of course, admitting she made a mistake simply isn’t in Hillary Clinton’s nature. Perhaps if Trevor Noah had not been viewing the failed presidential candidate through rose-colored glasses for so long he would see that hypocritical mistakes followed by a refusal to accept responsibility is simply status quo for Clinton. While her decision to not fire Burns Strider is rightfully angering, it’s far from surprising.

Nevertheless, it’s refreshing to see when those on the left such as Trevor Noah have enough principles to call out their own from time to time. We’d hardly call “The Daily Show” hard-hitting, honest reporting. In fact, we wouldn’t even call it news or comedy either. However, Trevor Noah did get this one thing right: Hillary Clinton’s refusal to accept blame for the way she handled the Burns Strider incident while at the same time touting herself as a voice for women everywhere is disappointing even for Clinton. While her political career was long over before this news ever broke, hopefully even more people realize what a bullet we all dodged in the 2016 election.
