Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Predicts the World Will End in 12 Years

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is becoming well-known for her outlandish statements; however, her recent assertion certainly takes the cake.

According to the freshman Congresswoman, the world will literally end in twelve years unless drastic action is taken to address climate change. Her statement is based on the Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5º, which was released by the United Nations in October 2018. The accuracy of the scaremongering report has already been called into question; even so, many believe the report’s statement that, by the year 2030, mankind would be faced with an increase in droughts, floods, extreme heat and climate changed-caused poverty if mankind does not drastically reduce global emissions.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez has made no secret of her plans to address what she clearly views as an extinction-level event. Her “Green New Deal”, which has been embraced by a number of new and veteran Democrat politicians, includes a number of proposals that would completely change how Americans live and work. It includes calls for the government to invest heavily in clean energy infrastructure and jobs. It would include a massive tax hike for oil and gas companies. It may even result in a ban on gasoline sales for vehicles. Furthermore, it calls for complete decarbonization of electricity, a move that is almost certain to raise utility costs across the nation. It also includes non-climate change-related proposals such as Medicare for All, free college tuition and a Federal Jobs guarantee that offers a government job that pays $15 an hour to anyone who happens to want one.

The proposals have been steadily gaining in popularity among far-left voters and activists who are pleased to see Democrat congressional representatives move further to the left. Naturally, those who believe in climate change are all too happy to have Rep. Ocasio-Cortez voice their inner fears. On the other hand, many people are still skeptical about the new end of the world timeframe.

Former Vice President Al Gore made a similar statement in 2006 when he said that there would be a global emergency if the world did not address climate change in ten years’ time. The expected climate catastrophe failed to arrive on schedule; in fact, it has still not arrived three years later.

The fact that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez referred to climate change as the millennials’ World War II event has generated mockery from those who actually remember what World War II is about. Climate change is, to put it mildly, far less dastardly than Adolf Hitler and his Nazi regime. Even some members of Ms. Ocasio-Cortez own party aren’t nearly as worried about climate change as she is. While Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi did agree to create a climate change committee in the House of Representatives as a concession to Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and other new progressive lawmakers in the chamber, the committee doesn’t have much power and the chairwoman for the committee, Rep. Kathy Castor, has already made it clear that the committee has no intention of blocking potential members who accept funding from oil and gas companies. What is more, the committee won’t focus solely on the Green New Deal as the great solution to the country’s climate change problems.

As Democratic lawmakers struggle to create an appealing alternative to President Donald Trump, they are embracing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and just about everything she has to say. However, her latest prediction that the world will end in twelve years is sure to make the party a laughing stock in 2030 when the nation discovers that life goes on even though the UN predicted otherwise.

While natural disasters such as wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes and floods take a massive toll and the government can and should help communities weather these incidents and deal with the aftermath, the massive changes proposed by Green New Deal advocates would not only give the government an excuse to become even more involved in the daily lives of ordinary citizens, but even make the lives of poor communities more challenging than they already are.

Embracing the climate change mania and all that comes with it won’t make the United States a better place. Instead, it only gives rise to paranoia as people believe that mankind is on the edge of annihilation if the government doesn’t take drastic action to save everyone.
