Since taking office, President Trump has attempted to make good on one of his campaign promises by enacting a travel ban that bars migrants from six high-threat countries from entering the United States. Unsurprisingly, these six countries – Iran, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, and Libya – are all Muslim-majority countries.
It as, after all, Islamic extremists who are responsible for perpetuating some of the most severe violence and horrendous attacks the world has ever seen. Regardless, some people on the left see Trump’s travel ban as directly targeting Muslims. Others on the left simply love to obstruct anything Trump tries to do, and will cry foul at any chance they get. With this being the case, President Trump has had a difficult time convincing federal judges to stop overstepping their boundaries, and allow him to do his job as president to keep the nation safe.
In the wake of yet another horrific attack carried out by Islamic extremists in England, conservative commentator and writer Ann Coulter has a radical idea to enable Trump to enact his travel ban: ban all immigration into the United States.
Speaking on this idea, Ann Coulter said, “I mean, what Trump, for example, suggested in his immigration policy paper, the greatest document since the Magna Carta, was a temporary ban on all immigration. You have no religious problem then. Why doesn’t he go back to that?”
While a complete ban on all immigration is a drastic solution, Coulter does make a great point.
If Trump were to enact a ban that covered all countries, no one would be able to shoot it down on the grounds that it was intentionally targeting Muslims. Forget the fact that immigrants from Israel or South Korea do not present even a fraction of the threat that immigrants from Syria or Libya do; if liberal judges want to continue impeding the President from keeping the country safe then extreme measures must be taken.
Of course, banning immigration from all countries, and not just those six that were included in Trump’s travel ban, would also mean banning immigration from countries that have a higher population of Muslims than anywhere else in the world.
India, Indonesia, Egypt, and many more are all Muslim-majority countries that were not targeted by Trump’s travel ban. If the travel ban were truly an attempt to target Muslims, why would Trump leave out countries where Muslims number in the hundreds of millions?
Of course, the logical answer to this question would be to say that immigrants from India do not pose a large threat to the security of the United States while immigrants from Syria do. It’s not a matter of religion, but rather a matter of location.
There are an incredibly higher number of radicalized individuals per capita in the six countries listed under Trump’s travel ban than there are anywhere else in the world. The fact that these six countries are all Muslim-majority says much more about the nature of Islam than it does about Trump’s stance on religious liberty.
Of course, this answer is far too simple and straightforward to those who would much rather paint Trump as an Islamaphobic bully than a thoughtful president trying to keep what’s happening in Europe from happening in the United States.
Thus, enter Ann Coulter’s suggestion for a ban on all immigration into the country. The same judges who struck down Trump’s initial ban for being “anti-Muslim” would have a hard time making the same argument if immigrants from Christian-majority or Hindu-majority countries were banned as well.
While effective, this idea is not something President Trump is likely to implement, again, for the simple fact that immigrants from Canada and Norway are not the problem – and immigrants from the six most dangerous countries in the world are. Nevertheless, something is going to have to be done in the face of a judicial branch that is directly obstructing the president’s attempts at bolstering our national security.
The threat of terrorist attacks and the rate at which they are carried out has never been higher. Countries in Europe are already reaping the consequences of their open-border policies in the form of one horrific attack after the other.
While there is hope that ISIS and all those like them will be wiped off the planet in the coming years, there is also the chance that a few years down the road that Coulter’s suggestion to ban all immigration won’t seem like such a drastic measure after all.
