The conservative majority of the U.S. Supreme Court appears poised to uphold the 2020 Census question regarding citizenship, and that has liberal extremists quaking in their boots.
Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross revived the question pertaining to citizenship because it has far-reaching implications over federal funding, seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and voting rights for Americans. After so-called sanctuary states shopped to find Democrat judges to back their political play, the case was kicked up to the U.S. Supreme Court where it appears at least the conservative wing will follow the law. The four liberal justices threw child-like tantrums and bandied about common, fake Democrat arguments.
“This is about 100 percent that people will answer less,” Obama-appointed Justice Sonia Sotomayor said. “It’s an action by the government that will be a cause of this, not proximate necessarily, but that cause will cause harm.”
To say that justice Sotomayor was less than truthful in her claims the citizen question would suppress participation would be something of an understatement. The liberal justice is fully aware that participation in the U.S. Census report is not optional. Anyone who does to fill out the questionnaire faces being charged with a crime and fines. Putting down false information can result in one year in jail and up to $5,000 in penalties under federal law. The project has reportedly been funded north of $15.6 billion and has more than ample funds to gather the required information. When liberal justices claim the citizenship question will result in non-participation, they are making a phony argument. Fortunately, Chief Justice John Roberts cleared the air.
“The principal purpose is to count the population, but we’ve had demographic questions on the census,” justice Roberts said. “Sex, age, things like that.”
If Supreme Court judges such as Sotomayor and the other liberals are willing to gloss over true facts to support lawlessness, this must be a high stakes case. Everyday Americans ought to know how the Trump Administration’s lawful demographic gathering could impact them.
What is unique about the U.S. Census report is that it delivers hard numbers about the total population in the United States as well as individual states. Federal tax dollars are distributed to states based on these numbers. It’s also only conducted every 10 years. That means, however it breaks down, states will have to live with their percentage of federal funding for a decade.
For example, the 2010 census data was used to dole out $675 billion to cover upwards of 132 federally-funded programs in 2015. These included Medicaid ($311 billion), Medicare Part B ($70 billion), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ($71 billion), Federal Pell Grant program ($29.9 billion), Highway Planning and Construction ($38 billion) and many others.
When deciding how much revenue a state gets, the total population is balanced against average wealth and certain other factors. But the biggest problem for sanctuary states that have been magnets for illegal immigrants is that non-citizens are barred from receiving taxpayer-funded benefits. Stunning reports indicate that upwards of 63 percent of non-citizen households are skimming tax dollars away from Americans. Only 35 percent of citizens use some form of a tax-funded supplement.
What’s at stake is that Blue States will no longer be able to funnel federal tax money to illegals. Either they’ll have to raise state and local taxes or stop the nefarious practice.
Every 10 years, the total population is counted and compared to states to determine how to divide up the 435 congressional delegates in the U.S. House of Representatives. Since the Obama years, Democrats have been swelling state populations with millions of illegal immigrants. These high tax states have seen American citizens migrate to lower tax states, usually run by Republicans.
The citizenship question presents a significant blow to the left’s hopes of retaining a majority in the U.S. House because illegal immigrants do not count as a state’s constituency. When you hear Democrats screaming about representing non-citizens, it’s about holding on to power. States such as Rhode Island are expected to lose a congressional representative due to American citizens leaving as it swelled its population with illegals. What’s at stake? Political power.
