Democrats STILL Won’t Budge on Immigration After Mollie Tibbetts

The Democratic Party in Iowa took a shocking stance on immigration this summer, when they spoke out against federal immigration laws and said local officials should not enforce those laws. But was the killing of Mollie Tibbetts, a 20-year-old Iowa college student, allegedly by an illegal alien who had been in the U.S. for four to seven years, enough to cause the party to backtrack?

No.

“The Iowa Democratic Party is going to honor the wishes of the Tibbetts family to let them grieve in private and will not turn this senseless tragedy into a partisan fight,” Iowa Democratic Party chairman Troy Prince said.

Tibbetts was jogging in broad daylight in July when she was approached by Cristhian Rivera, who was in the U.S. illegally and was apparently stalking her. She threatened to call the police. The suspect, a 24-year-old man from Mexico, had been employed by a farm in the area after lying to his employer before he was hired. He was also going by a fake name.

Once law enforcement tracked down Rivera, partially through viewing the surveillance video of a person who lived near the place where Tibbetts was jogging, he admitted that he had taken Tibbetts’ body to a nearby corn field. He led them to her body and was arrested and charged soon after.

To suggest that liberal immigration policies had nothing to do with this crime is nothing if not dishonest. Here is what the 2018 Iowa Democrat Party platform says:

We oppose: detaining undocumented minors, immigrant detention/deportation quotas, locally enforcing federal immigration laws, mass raids/related enforcement practices, religious exclusion, ‘papers please,’ unnecessary travel-bans, abrogating birthright-citizenship, separating minor children from their parents when they are trying to enter the country, internment and concentration camps.

Those principles were adopted at an Iowa Democratic convention that took place in June.

So, does Price still stand by that platform that is quite possibly contributing to crimes against Americans by illegals? He would not say.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump, who since day one of his presidential campaign has spoken out against illegal immigration, had some strong words about the Tibbetts tragedy.

“Molly Tibbetts, an incredible young woman, is now permanently separated from her family,” the president said. “A person came in from Mexico Illegally and killed her. We need the wall, we need our immigration laws changed. We need our border laws changed. We need Republicans to do it because the Democrats aren’t going to do it. This is one instance of many.”

The problem of people coming into the United States illegally and committing violent crimes is obviously a serious one. The heartbreak has got to stop. Many Americans before Tibbetts had been killed or otherwise victimized by illegals. Immigration laws need to be enforced, and those that are not working must be changed before one more American is victimized.
