HUD Director Ben Carson: We Take Care of Americans BEFORE Illegals

Washington elitist Democrats appear to have a new slogan everyday Americans that should trouble hard-working Americans. Open borders liberals are basically saying, “send your criminals, your unvaccinated, your MS-13 gang members, and we’ll make Americans pay for their housing.” Fortunately, HUD Secretary Ben Carson has other ideas.

“It seems only logical that tax-paying American citizens should be taken care of first,” HUD secretary Carson reportedly said. “It’s not that we’re cruel, mean-hearted. It’s that we are logical. This is common sense. You take care of your own first.”

Democrats are fully aware that many war veterans are living on the streets while illegal immigrants are reaping the benefits of taxpayer-funded HUD programs. Touting a major initiative to put Americans first, Carson plans to exclude illegals from usurping HUD programs intended to help fellow citizens in need. The illegal practice ran roughshod over homeless Americans during the Obama Administration, and liberal extremist Democrats have used free housing to lure illegals across the border.

Carson recently testified at a contentious House Financial Services Committee hearing in which Democrats attacked him for following HUD policies intended only to benefit U.S. citizens. Applying existing rules would result in thousands of non-citizens being replaced by Americans in taxpayer-funded housing. Carson and other experts have pointed to an ongoing affordable housing crisis despite the economic resurgence the country has experienced.

Supporting Carson’s and the Trump Administration’s position, new construction building permits were stagnant during the Obama years. Even with strong GDP and employment figures, single-family and multi-family home construction only began to pick up steam in early 2018. The Fed raising interest rates against the president’s wishes curbed the enthusiasm of many in the construction sector. Point being, the affordable housing is unlikely to be cured in the coming years. Still, Washington Democrats leveled vicious attacks against the HUD chief.

“The ‘D’ in HUD does not stand for ‘deportation,’” New York Democrat Rep. Carolyn Maloney reportedly said. “We cannot create affordable housing for Americans by throwing other Americans out in the street with no place to go.”

“Do you understand why this sounds like you’re talking from both sides of your mouth,” New York Rep. Nydia Velazquez said. “This budget is shameful. It’s immoral. It fails American citizens just for the sake of scoring political points.”

But the fact open borders Democrats avoided was that allowing illegal immigrants to occupy federal-funded housing is against a law Congress themselves passed. Carson argued that Section 214 of the Housing and Community Development Act “states that the secretary of HUD is prohibited from providing housing assistance to people who are in the country illegally. And what people sometimes don’t understand is that we have millions of legal Americans in line waiting for these very scarce resources,” he said.

Political pundits have questioned the intentions of Democrats, speculating that the far-left party is trying to secure enough Washington power to grant illegals citizenship in hopes of swelling their voter ranks. It’s no secret that Democrats are quickly losing African-Americans as a voting base, and many working-class Democrats are expected to vote Trump in 2020 as they did in 2016. The trend has liberals in a death spiral, and they are desperate to persuade new voters of the merits of anti-jobs policies.

“Congress has a responsibility for making the laws that govern this, and they have the ability to change that,” Carson reportedly said. “If in fact you want to explain to the American citizens who have been on the waitlist for several years, why we should continue to support families who are not here legally, I would be happy to join you in explaining that.”

HUD chief Carson’s plan involves compassionately following the law. People who are wrongfully occupying HUD housing would be given 18 months to find a suitable place to live. These illegal immigrants can also return to their home country at any time.

“If someone can tell me how to follow the law and still take care of their issue, I’ll hear it,” Carson said. “Until we’re willing collectively, both Democrats and Republicans, to sit down and solve the problem, we’re going to continue to have these problems pop up.”

The Trump Administration recently proposed an immigration reform package that would address housing, the need for skilled immigrant workers, and provide the so-called Dreamers with a pathway to citizenship. Democrats called it DOA without even negotiating.
