The vicious attacks on the Covington Catholic High School students by the biased, fake news mainstream media appears to be the final nail in the coffin as widespread reports indicate Native American elder Nathan Phillips conned them all.
After major media outlets ran with a viral video that posed Phillips beating a drum in front of a Covington high school student who was smiling, a more substantial story has unraveled that now indicts the left-leaning media. It seems all too obvious that liberal outlets based their reporting on the same type of identity politics used by the Democratic Party to falsely accuse the youth of harassment. Videos show a broader view of what led up to the confrontation and Phillips as the clear aggressor.
So, taken in by Phillips’ Native American victim mentality that the likes of CNN condemned the teens for “getting in (Phillips’) face.” Video evidence shows exactly the opposite. Phillips appears to have baited the mainstream media with its own bias. CNN ran a snippet along with its never-ending “Breaking News” sub-head that Phillips was a “Vietnam Veteran.”
Call it semantics if you like, but Phillips never set foot in Vietnam, and combat veterans are furious about his attempt at stolen valor.
“You know, I’m from Vietnam times,” Phillips reportedly told Vogue. “I’m what they call a recon ranger. That was my role.”
Although CNN, The Washington Post, Vogue, and others didn’t bother to fact check Phillips’ story, he was actually a refrigerator repair technician in a non-combat position during the war, according to a former Navy SEAL. The fake news media has egg all over its face after the truth about Phillips’ refrigeration service exploded. The Washington Post at least ran a correction.
CNN gave Phillips perhaps his greatest opportunity to come clean about the events. He squandered that platform by presenting a cache of false and misleading statements. CNN hosts were more than willing to let him attack the boys without challenging a single claim. Fact-checking Phillips claims against video evidence shows these statements to be false and misleading reportedly.
“Here’s a group of people who were angry at somebody else and I put myself in front of that, and all of a sudden, I’m the one who’s all that anger and all that wanting to have the freedom to just rip me apart, that was scary,” he said. “And I’m a Vietnam veteran, and I know that mentality of “There’s enough of us. We can do this.”
Of course, the lies didn’t stop there.
“They were there looking for trouble, looking for something,” Phillips continued. “Everybody knows the right to life and (pro-choice), it’s been like this, and they’re hateful to each other. And it’s because I’m a veteran — I’m a Vietnam veteran — that these two groups even have the right in this country to have protests, to have conflicting opinions…To be honest, they looked like they were going to lynch them. They were in this mob mentality.”
What the media also failed to present was that Phillips has a long-standing reputation for confrontation and agitating groups that do not agree with him. On the same day that he harassed the high school students wearing MAGA hats, Phillips reportedly tried to disrupt a Catholic Mass in Washington, D.C.
The Catholic News Agency reported that Phillips and approximately 20 other agitators attempted to push into the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and disturb people of faith during the evening mass on January 19. They were banging drums and chanting when security barred them from upending the Christian service.
“It was really upsetting. There were about twenty people trying to get in, we had to lock the doors and everything,” a security guard said. “We had hundreds and hundreds of people from all over the country come here to celebrate life. It’s a house of worship, a place of prayer where people come to celebrate. All this anger is so against what we are all about here.”
The liberal media has yet to denounce Phillips or acknowledge that his actions are anything but peaceful.
Even a cursory look at Phillips history uncovered a trove of unsavory facts. Fox News reported that Phillips might have changed his name. He was a private in the military under the moniker Nathaniel R. Standard, and reportedly has a criminal history. He allegedly was incarcerated, escaped from prison, has a history of assault charges and alcohol-related offenses. The supposed peaceful Native American victim also served one year of probation.
Despite overwhelming evidence contradicting many of Phillips claims, the Today Show allowed the agitator another opportunity to attack the youth in the video about his televised account of the events. The NBC segment then let him mislead the American public that he is somehow the good guy.
“Coached and written up for (the youth). Insincerity. Lack of responsibility. Those are the words I came up with, but then I went to go pray about it,” Phillips said on TODAY. “And then I woke up, and I woke up with this forgiving heart. So, I forgive him.”
Disgraceful. It’s no wonder everyday Americans view the fake news media as The Enemy of the People.
