Mainstream media outlets trashing GOP governors for daring to reopen their state economies have found an ally.
Pew Research recently released a report proclaiming that COVID-19 deaths are declining in states with Democrat governors, yet remaining steady in states governed by Republican governors. However, even a quick look at the report makes it clear that the headline is misleading at best, and deliberately deceptive at worst.
Just take a look at the post:

Deaths in Democrat-governed states are decreasing dramatically, in fact, the current daily death toll as of May 20 was 4.1, which is certainly lower than the mid-April daily death toll of 7.4. At the same time, the death toll in red states with governors who did not issues Draconian lockdown legislation and were fairly quick to begin reopening their economies peaked in mid-May at a mere 2 deaths per day. As of May 20, the daily death average in red states is 1.7.
Put in simple terms, Democrat governors with thousands of deaths in their states are experiencing lower mortality rates but still haven’t caught up to the low death rate in GOP-controlled states. The stats make this clear — and the fact that they include a time period in which states such as Florida and Georgia were allowing “non-essential activity” clearly indicates that refusal to institute totalitarian lockdown measures is not a sign of insanity or being “anti-science.”
Some would point out that states such as New York get far more international traffic than states such as Georgia. However, the high death toll in NYC and other solidly blue areas can be attributed in part to how Democrat governors and mayors handled the pandemic in its early stages.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was still urging residents to get out and enjoy social activities in the first week of March, even as mayors and governors in other states were banning large crowds and urging people to stay at home. When they did begin shutting things down, they went to the extreme, banning protests, threatening to arrest devout Christians and Jews, and even disallowing state residents to shop for clothes, seeds, and art supplies at Wal-Mart.
At the same time, both NY Governor Andrew Cuomo and Democrat Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer forced nursing homes to accept COVID-19 positive patients, exposing scores of elderly individuals to a pathogen that is particularly deadly to the elderly.
So-called experts are continually dumping on those who call for the reopening of the economy. However, as statistics show, the overwhelming majority of COVID-19 deaths are in blue states. Coincidence? Unlikely.
