Progressive politics is starting to backfire hard on America’s bluest cities. A recent poll shows that a whopping 79% of truckers throughout the United States would utterly refuse to deliver cargo to or from cities that either defund or disband their police departments.
Given the fact that well over two-thirds of all freight tonnage in the United States is transported by the trucking industry, it goes without saying that liberal cities that ditch their police departments could easily face shortages and sky-high prices for food and other basic necessities. As a result, the lack of police coupled with the lack of affordable groceries could very well lead to a major exodus from police-less cities, creating economic wastelands throughout the United States.
However, the inability to move goods to and from progressive cities won’t just affect the cities that choose to dump their police. Businesses throughout the United States would be hard hit as they would find it difficult, expensive, or even impossible to buy products and materials from certain locations.
It’s not hard to see why truckers are willing to turn down thousands of dollars to avoid traveling to police-less municipalities. Recent statistics indicate that truckers have the most dangerous job in the nation. There were more fatalities last year for those who worked in this field than there were for construction workers, grounds maintenance workers, farmers and ranchers, or other typically dangerous professions.
Now, with images and videos circulating showing freight trucks being looted by mobs, it seems like a no-brainer.
Some truckers say they are worried about having to take the law into their own hands if they are attacked, only to risk being prosecuted for rightfully defending themselves and their customer’s cargo. Others have pointed out that no amount of money is worth a human life. Others have plainly stated that they are already turning down trucking jobs involving travel to and from cities with defunded police departments due to concerns over personal safety.
There is a common misconception that defunding police departments will turn cities into happy, healthy places where everyone can flourish without having to worry about rogue police officers trampling on people’s rights. Granted, some cops have no business being in uniform — and Derek Chauvin is definitely one of them. However, the truth is that there are also plenty of criminals who don’t care about people’s basic rights, and law enforcement officials are the only ones protecting innocent citizens from them.
Disbanding police departments would not only lead to rising crime rates, but also a total economic crash. Far-left politicians will likely blame the ensuing economic problems on President Trump, but the truth is that they brought these problems on themselves.
