Popular rapper and actor 50 Cent has announced that he is giving his support to President Donald Trump in the November election while sharing a graphic featuring the new tax rates wealthy Americans would face under Joe Biden’s plan to increase taxes.
Curtis Jackson, known to the world as 50 Cent, posted a photo on his Instagram account on Monday from a CNBC broadcast indicating that the top 1% of earners living in New York City could face a combined tax rate of 62% – compliments of the Biden campaign and the nonprofit Tax Foundation. Since the artist lives in NYC and is obviously in that tax bracket earning over $400,000 a year, he was quick to criticize Biden’s tax plan.
“WHAT THE [expletive],” the rapper posted on his Instagram account with 26.2 million followers. “(VOTE ForTRUMP) IM OUT, [expletive] NEW YORK The KNICKS never win anyway. I don’t care if Trump doesn’t like black people 62% are you out of ya [expletive] mind.”
Biden’s new tax plan is posted on his campaign website and indicates that he will not increase taxes on anyone making less than $400,000 annually. Biden did say that he does plan to repeal the current Trump tax cuts, but supposedly only the ones given to people making more than $400,000.
While there are doubters as to the sincerity of Jackson’s initial social media post, the singer was quick to follow it up with other comments that show his support for the president. He posted a Fox News segment remarking on his previous post, “Yeah, I don’t want to be 20cent. 62% is a very, very, bad idea.” He took it even farther with his third post saying “I just remembered I’m bankrupt, so I’m looking for a gracious loan can anyone help a brother out. LOL.”
Supporting Trump would be a new stance for the artist, as he has spoken critically of the president in the past. In fact, in September 2016, he posted his disdain for the potential leader to the millions of followers on his social media account, “Let us pray, Lord please don’t let Trump into office. We will spin out of control.”
Jackson also said he turned down $500,000 to be a part of Trump’s 2016 inauguration and has described Trump’s presidency as “an accident.”
Things began to change though, in July, when the rapper said he liked Trump’s unapologetic demeanor. This, combined with the announcement from the Biden-Harris campaign that they would indeed be targeting those within his income range for higher taxes, seems to have given 50 Cent a brand new ticket on the ‘Trump Train’ for the election in a few weeks.
