Earlier this month, an anonymous White House insider penned an explosive opinion piece for the New York Times titled “I Am Part Of The Resistance Inside The Trump Administration.” In this piece, the anonymous author claims that they work for the president. The person who penned the Op-Ed said that they, along with other “like-minded colleagues” in the White House are doing whatever they can to thwart parts of the president’s agenda. According to the author, Trump’s leadership style is “impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective.” The author claims that top White House workers are doing whatever they can to frustrate the president’s worse intentions.
The New York Times said that they decided to publish this rare piece to deliver an important message to their viewers. Editors from the New York Times claim that they have verified the author’s identity and say that the person is credible. Yet, the editors refuse to name the anonymous author, saying that it would cause their job to be in jeopardy.
The opinion piece quickly drew criticism from White House officials and others. Press Secretary Sarah Sanders called for the “coward” to resign. She also said that the author is a gutless source and called the New York Times a ‘failing” news outlet. Sanders urged the American public to call the New York Times and demand answers. She said that the public has the right to know who wrote the explosive Op-Ed piece.
Trump went so far as to call the Op-Ed piece “treasonous” at a rally in Billings, Montana. He called the author “gutless” and a “coward.” President Trump also suggested that the publication of this piece could be a threat to the security of the U.S. The president added that he believes that Sessions should determine who the author of the piece is. Currently, the Justice Department has not said whether or not they plan to launch an investigation.
Many inside the White House quickly denied writing the piece. Security of State Mike Pompeo denies being the author. He criticized the newspaper for publishing the piece, saying that the New York Times should not have taken a “bad actor’s word for anything.”
Liberals quickly jumped to the conclusion that Vice President Mike Pence wrote the piece. This idea was based on the fact that the author used the word “lodestar” in the piece, which Pence has been known to use. Pence denied writing the piece. His communications director, Jarrod Agen, says that Pence always puts his byline on his articles and opinion pieces. He said that the office of Mike Pence is above writing such “false, illogical and gutless” opinion pieces. Agen also said that the person should be ashamed. Like Sanders and others in the White House, Pence has called for the person to resign.
