It began with the Brexit vote in the U.K. in 2016 when the British middle class rose up and told the European Union that they wanted their national sovereignty back, that they were no longer content to be ruled by an un-nameable and unelected body of bureaucrats on another continent.
Soon, other European nations began considering the same course of action. Of course, at the same time, the United States was preparing its own groundswell of patriotism and nationalism with the movement that put Donald Trump into the White House.
In other places in the world, people are rediscovering the virtues of patriotism. Venezuela, for example, is in the midst of a massive upheaval over the failed socialist policies that have been implemented there. The Maduro regime is responsible for an explosion of poverty, hunger, and civil unrest.
Patriotic sentiment is also on the rise in Russia, as Vladimir Putin’s popularity and a belief in his country’s ability to have a major impact on terrorist groups like ISIS grow.
Those who uphold the banner of globalism call rising global patriotism a backlash against progressivism, dismissing the movement as being rife with racism, xenophobia, and isolationism. But these are just the same insults that Democrats in the U.S. have been using for decades in an attempt to shame conservatives into not defending their values. It is a tactic that fewer and fewer people are putting much stock in, and there are a number of reasons that globalism is becoming increasing unpopular.
The main reason for the global nationalist surge is the practically unfettered influx of migrants coming into Europe and the Americas from Syria and North Africa. These so-called refugees have been conspicuously composed of almost entirely males aged 18 to 35, and wherever they have arrived there has been an upsurge in rapes, murders, and other violent crimes. All the while any group that stands up and says ‘we should stop accepting refugees’ has been labeled as just about any synonym for the word ‘bigot.’
But enough people have seen through the facade and realized that this mass migration is not about protecting those fleeing war-torn nations, but instead is a weaponized population aimed at destroying western societies.
At the same time, Britain’s experience with the European Union, and the United States’ experience with the United Nations has thrown the presence and the consequences of external national control into sharp contrast. Surrounding the UK debate leading up to the Brexit vote, people around the world became educated about just exactly what it means when a foreign body controlled by unelected bureaucrats is able to make decisions over which the people of the nation concerned have no vote, no voice, and no choice.
This discourse made it much easier to understand why conservatives in the U.S. have decried the United Nations for so long. While the U.N. has little control over the U.S. in reality- its goal has always been to attain global authority greater to that of the U.S.
But of course, the worst thing about the U.N. is that it was set up as a global defense against the Soviet Union. Today, it is widely regarded as a kind of legitimized weapons cartel determined to spread russophobia in order to drum up business.
With the lies of the progressives, the globalists, the greed of the U.N., and the danger of open borders, the world has begun to look on nationalism in a whole new way. It is no longer seen as an ideology of hate, but simply the passion to defend one’s own people and culture.
To illustrate this, we rely on a simple analogy – that of a home and the family within it. In the standard family home, a man and a woman work to secure the prosperity of the family, and to protect the defenseless children inside. At night, they lock the door and secure the windows.
Should someone invade their home, they are ready to defend it with terrible force. If you’re a parent, you understand this implicitly. We secure our homes not because we hate the people outside, but because we love the people inside.
The push to demonize patriotism and national pride is nothing more than a way to poison a people’s ability to defend themselves and to secure their own homes, belongings, and loved ones.
